3B Lyrics for Mexican Hat Dance

Posted by Melissa Jacobson in Music-Drama , 3rdGr Homework , 3rd grade

Please review these lyrics at home and practice your dance moves.  Don't forget to tell your parents about the It's A Small World Cultural Festival performance on May 25 at 2 p.m.

In America we dance on a dance floor
and in Spain they will dance on a table,
And in Russia they dance with a saber
and in Mexico they dance with a hat!
Oh they dance on hot coals in Calcutta
in Wisconsin they dance on fresh butta
Which they squeeze from one cow or an udda.
and in Mexico they dance with their hats

In Mexico they dance with a derby
or sometimes they dance with a cap
They will throw a fedora
wherever the floor is
and start doing horas and taps!

4th Grade Costume Requirements

Posted by Melissa Jacobson in Music-Drama , 4thGr Homework , 4th grade

Dear 4th Grade Parents, After speaking with several parents, I realize that my costume requirements list for the It’s A Small World performance needed some clarification. What I should have made more clear is that the costumes are the student actors’ responsibility to obtain, and that they should use only items that are available to them. Please show the pictures included in my previous email to your children. It is actually their job to come up with their costumes for their characters, not the parents (we have enough to do, right?). Let them go through their closet and drawers (or yours) to come up with items to use for their costume. If they can’t find what they need, markers and an old white t-shirt work great (especially for Arlecchino’s patchwork diamond shirt), and they can enjoy the process of making their own costume. The characters they are portraying were originally performed by street theater performers, who also had to improvise when it came to costuming, so the costumes need not be fancy. By the way, if they are in need of a black cape, I have several in a box in my room. Feel free to contact me (via email is best) about any questions you may have, or if your child needs assistance with a particular costume piece. Thanks for your patience and support! Melissa Jacobson

6th Grade Drama Elective Homework

Posted by Melissa Jacobson in Music-Drama , 6thGr Homework , 6th grade

Please put your script in a three ring one inch binder and bring it and a sharpened pencil to every class. Please read through your new script. For a trip to the treasure box (contains chocolate!!), solve the following problem: How to divide the parts so that seven people can play 14 parts! Hint: Remember, an actor cannot play two characters that are in the same scene. See you on Friday! Have a great long weekend!
